I seem to recall that in the late 1960's, there were concerns about improprieties in the awards show, and again in the early 1980's the credibility of the Golden Globes took a big hit (I think it had something to weigh skulduggery concerning Bo Derek getting a Golden Globe nomination many though she didn't deserve).
But in recent years, the Globes had regained credibility to such a point that their film awards were considered a pretty accurate barometer of the upcoming Academy (Oscars) Awards while the TV awards were considered a likewise accurate prediction of the Primetime Emmy Awards.
Another scandal, this one about diversity, hit the awards in 2021, and as a result, there was no telecast of the 2022 ceremony. The organizers (the Hollywood Foreign Press Association) had taken steps to diversify it's membership, which has prompted NBC to resume broadcasting the ceremony after a year's hiatus.
