Getting a song on the radio

How does this happen? Indy Label, Country Genre. Sent to everyone, ads on allaccess site. Callouts to MD.
Pizzas and Fruit to PD's in market.

How does this happen now?

Corporate MD's? What?

It starts with the song. As an unknown indy artist, it almost has to be BETTER than what the superstars are sending to radio.

Then there's the followup...weekly calls to MD's (or PD's if they're doing it all) during their designated music call times. Build the relationship and sell your record.

PD's/MD's may be looking at a couple dozen new records each week to fill a slot or two in their playlist. A good record being promoted weekly to those radio stations has a chance, but it won't happen overnight. Don't get discouraged.

Nojustice, contact me. If the song is broadcast-quality and can air in a very conservative area, we'll put it on somewhere. I am the station manager of a high school noncom, and I part-time at three local stations.

Wow...Pizzas and fruit? An artist once sent me a quart of bourbon.

It's very tough. Too many artists, too much new music, not enough room or demand. You're almost better off changing genre, and some people do. Even major label acts with lots of money aren't happening. MDs are being inundated and it takes something special to break through the clutter.

Try to do something different. A couple of promotions that were tried on me (but didn't work):

One good--a packet of high quality coffee with a note something like enjoy a great cup of coffee and a great song.

One bad--sending me a t-shirt.........child's XL.

It was ALWAYS about the music for us. We were always willing to try GOOD music from indy labels. Anything on CD-X always got at least one listen from me, but I don't know how pricy that is.

Good luck.
