Fox 11 to have a 4 am Newscast

Fox-owned KTTV Los Angeles (DMA 2) today expanded its Good Day LA by a half hour. The broadcast now begins at 4 a.m.

With this addition, the station said it is producing nine hours of live, local news each weekday, and 49 hours of local news per week.

Not surprising though given that its been a trend for some time to have a 4 am newscast.

i would wager people in LA get up early and have a long commute and many are at work by 10am

KTLA has an hour of news from 10-11am, and has been airing news since 4am weekday mornings. Did KTTV not want to compete against KTLA for viewers of news at this hour? If they had programs that could get larger ratings, I would have considered moving the newscast to KCOP. I understand that KCOP has not aired news for a few years, but if the Fox L.A. affiliate wants to expand their local news presence, they should consider this. It might be cheaper than purchasing talk shows and entertainment news magazine shows.
