I'll start the list:

Queen: Radio Ga Ga
Lynyrd Skynyrd: Don't Ask Me No Questions
Jimi Hendrix: Castles Made Of Sand

your turn

> Jimi Hendrix: Castles Made Of Sand

WEHM, a (AAA format) station on Eastern Long Island still plays this one.

> Lynyrd Skynyrd: Don't Ask Me No Questions

This one gets played more on southern classic rock stations.

I'll add in a few nuggets that you may hear from time to time, but not too often...

Donnie Iris, "Ah Leah"
Allman Brothers Band, "Wasted Words"
Led Zeppelin, "How Many More Times"
Steppenwolf, "The Pusher"

Speak of the devil, I'm listening to KGON's stream of the top 923 songs, and this song just came on, it's number 96! I guess it's a big Oregon hit!

I just want to know where all of you are posting from cause so far ZZ Top's Just Got Paid and Skynard's Dont't ask me no questions is played often here in Maine on Rock 105 WTOS. I also hear Triumph Fight The Good Fight and Lay It On The Line pretty frequently here on Portland's 104.7/106.7 The Bone

there are a lot of songs that were big hits on AM back in the day but rarely got played on FM.

Sweet: Fox on the Run
Ram Jam: Black Betty (heard this one for the first time in years on John
Boy and Billy)
Brownsville Station?-Martian Boogie
ABBA-You hear Dancing Queen and Waterloo, but seldom hear I do I do I do, Does your mother know, and several others
Paul McCartney-Several big hits from his "wings" days of the 70's seldom get played.
There are tons of big top 40 songs from the 70's that even the oldies stations won't touch. Paul Davis-Ride em cowboy, Smokie-livin next door to alice and Cinderella (don't remember the group)

I agree on the ZZtop and Skynyrd down here in the south.. kind of staples here..

I know missing from zz top is songs like "heard it on the X"
Another is Chain Lightning by .38 special

I do have a question for those of you however about some skynyrd....
Have you ever heard the song "The Ballad Of Curtis Loew" on your station? I know it's a staple on classic rock in Louisiana where I'm at it seems.

In Boston, WZLX plays "Curtis Loew" as a 'lost classic', basically on occasion say during Threefer Thursday or during the weekend. Oddly enough, WZLX plays a fairly wide variety of music from the Allman Brothers. Definitely more than Skynyrd. Perusing some of the classic rock charts from stations around the country, it seems that the south and more smaller market stations have more southern rock and American rock (Aerosmith, Eagles, etc.) than in larger cities, especially in the northeast. On WZLX in Boston and Q104.3 in New York, there's a lot more music from the Beatles and U2, for example. However, Led Zeppelin is the classic rock staple throughout.

WTOS is a station that's all over the place, and that's what I like about them. I hope that they being owned by Clear Channel hasn't hurt them too badly, especially since TOS has a knack for not playing those 'radio edits'. The Triumph songs you mentioned get played fairly often on WHJY in Providence, but I don't think I've heard "Don't Ask Me No Questions" on any station in Rhode Island or Massachusetts.

I have also heard the Ballad Of Curtis Loew on TOS from time to time and to answer a question about the station from a previous post some songs are now radio edited ugg since clear channel took over but some remain the same and the playlist is just about the same which is refreshing to hear from a station owned by that company as other clear channel rock stations like WGIR and WHEB sound so bland now unlike before when Knight owned them.

I'll toss in a few.....

Tony Carey - "I Won't Be Home Tonight" (used to hear that quite a bit on the old WZOU in Boston years ago......)

Chris DeBurgh - "Don't Pay the Ferryman" (same)

Sweet - "Little Willy"

ELO - "Showdown" & "All Over the World"

I can't somehow picture that one on a classic rocker, though for some reason I've been hearing "Ballroom Blitz" quite a bit lately. I personally wouldn't consider either one rock, much less classic.

By definition...... 99% of any songs in regular rotation on any Crappic Rock station.... Are --not-- my Favorites..... because,

I have:

1. A Soul

2. A Life

Forever against the commonplace Top 40 mindset of --ANY-- genre of Music . . .

You're certainly welcome to your own taste (or lack thereof), but I don't see how intentionally disliking anything that's popular makes you somehow superior to those who don't share your tastes. Songs are hits because lots of people like them.

Lots of people eat at Mc Donalds all the time....

What you "lile" to eat and listen to, may not be the best for you in the long run.....

Only thing about eating..... Ican get what I want by drving a little further....

On Terrrestrial Radio..... I can scan the complete corporate comglomerate dial.... And find nothing but "Mc Donald's"

That's not choice.... It;s a force of choice....

And I'll be glad when Congress steps in to reign in the "Public" airwaves use by Corporations and their corporate definitions of serving the public...

18 flavors of "pop" music not Nirvana......

Being the proud owner of over 25,000 songs, all of which are legal ranging from the 1400s till 2006 I can say you are one of the most closed minded people I have read on this board. If you have a problem with Corporate Radio, dont take it out on the music.
