Commercials on WWDB

I happened to still be in Delaware (instead of Ridley Park) at 8am this morning and listened to Imus on WWDB instead of WFAN. I was surprised at the number of ads. Kohl's Father's Day sale and numerous other local/national spots.

My question for those on the sales end of radio (and others, of course)is this. How does an AM station with virtually no audience attract so many ads for morning drive? Is it a give-away for those who buy ads on 96.5 and WXTU?

I was also surprised at the strength of WWDB in Newark, Del. On I-495 at 6am the 'FAN is always stronger than 860. But in Newark, a lot further south, WWDB was loud and clear.

What a second. Did I miss something? I thought Imus was on 1210. Am I wayyyyy out of date here? That's how much of an Imus fan I am. LOL How long has he been on WWDB-AM?

Ever since Mike came back and went to mornings and they added Sean for afternoons.

You are right: Some spots are part of a sales package. And some are spots sold by Imus' syndicator, Westwood One. Those spot avails are the price WWDB pays to carry the show. (Money may change hands as well. Sometimes the station pays the syndicator for a very popular show, like Rush. Sometimes the syndicator pays the station to get clearance in a given market: Some have specualated here that Westwood pays Beasley so they can tell advertisers their spots are being heard in Philly.)
