Can someone explain this to me?

COX MEDIA GROUP/ATLANTA Market Manager DAN KEARNEY: "THE RIVER is all about a lifestyle and an era. We take listeners back to a time they cherish and having a celebrity like EDDIE MONEY on the airwaves will help transcend that connection between what we deliver and who we deliver it to."

tran·scend /trænˈsɛnd/ (verb)
1. to rise above or go beyond; overpass; exceed: to transcend the limits of thought; kindness transcends courtesy.
2. to outdo or exceed in excellence, elevation, extent, degree, etc.; surpass; excel.
3. Theology (of the Deity) to be above and independent of (the universe, time, etc.).

[this Dan Kearney reminds me of the movie Blue Chip, where Slick is talking about Neon]

Slick: "I'm not going to bullsh*t you Pete. He ain't no brain surgeon aight. He took the SAT recently and scored a 520 out of a possible 1600."

Pete Bell : "520? You get 400 for just spelling your name correctly."

Slick: "That's it, he messed up on his name."

Remember, this is the same market that gave Cledus T. Judd a morning show.

What does this have to do with Dallas radio?

I assume it will sound as awful as that Nikki Sixx "show" they run on 97.1. Some old, washed up rock guy talking about nothing, between tired old songs...

And I agree with Charles, what does this have to do with Dallas?

Well, I don't listen to terrestial radio anymore (between Sirius/XM and podcasts..why?...but I still read this forum), and Howard Stern said something relevant to this a while back on his show. He said a major problem with radio, both terrestrial and satellite, is that the "powers that be" have the belief that anybody can do radio. That's why they now give radio shows to singers, comedians, athletes, authors, pornstars and others that know absolutely nothing about the radio medium. Satellite can get away with it because of its subsription base, but this is just another trend that is killing terrestrial radio. I have to agree with Howard on this one.

Or anyone who ponies up the money to buy time on the radio. They may know their topic but they suck! Informative and entertaining have to go hand and hand. Good radio cannot exsist without both!. So they drop in a radio guy as a co-host who knows what to do and force it to be entertaining. But listeners know the truth: Its just another informercial to sell a product or business he/she owns. The only one who benefits is the sales guy.

And that my friends, is the *SECOND* biggest thing that is KILLING radio! ;D
