Antenna Failure Takes KUTX And KJFK Off The Air - Radio Insights

"While most of the stations on the shared FM master antenna resumed broadcasting from their auxiliary sites on Saturday, University of Texas AAA 98.9 KUTX Leander and Recharge Media Variety Hits “96.3 Jack-FM” K242DE Austin are both streaming only for the time being."

KUTX is still heard OTA via KXBT. And I think it’s interesting Jack didn’t mention 1490. I guess they know nobody would listen to that (without HD)

Based on a STA filed today, it looks like Jack FM is back on the air with 40 watts ERP utilizing the antenna of sister station K261DW (Sun Radio).

That’s a very impressive technical turn around unless they already had all the hardware on hand. It’s a little lower on. The tower and obviously way less power but at least they are on the air serving listeners.

The filing says it will take at least 60 days for the main master antenna to be repaired.

It’s still a mystery how 97.1 Austin City Limits radio is on the air but doesn’t have an aux antenna and hasn’t filed a STA.

Maybe they were the only tenant of the master antenna that is unaffected by the hardware failure?

KJFK AM HD sounds horrible. The analog sounds much better than the HD.
