AM 1500

Well, we know now.

Talk is being discontinued on 1500. KSTP will become the new home of ESPN Sports Radio in the Twin Cities... with Minnesota Twins baseball play-by-play continuing. There'll be some local shows mixed with ESPN national shows.

The second news-talk station to go down this week, after WROW/Albany dropped the likes of Glenn Beck for the sounds of Glenn Miller and the like.

And AM 1500 will not go by the name "ESPN 1500" until their contract with KFAN 1130 is completed. Making imaging awkward for at least the next couple of months.

Well, actually WROW Albany NY has the music of The Beatles and The Carpenters, Soft AC of the 60s, 70s & 80s, not Glen Miller. And Albany-area Glenn Beck fans can hear him on 710 WOR New York if they're in the car. Most NYC 50,000 watt stations (660, 710, 770, 880, 1050, 1130) can be heard in the Capital District.

In the Twin Cities, KSTP's switch to Sports is sad, and puts a number of radio pros out of work. Yet, Minneapolis still has three talk stations on AM: WCCO, WWTC and KTNF, and two on FM: KTLK and WFMP plus NPR outlet KNOW. Yes, WWTC and KTNF run syndicated talk most of the day. But even with the loss of KSTP, the Twin Cities is still one of the best markets for talk.

Should we blame People Meters for the loss of KSTP? It had usually been in or near the top 10 before PPM sent KSTP (and WCCO) numbers dropping.
