Airchecks of automated top 40 from early to mid80s

Some of these have been recently posted at my site, some have been up for a number of months. Personally, I miss the automated formats, they are all gone now, I experienced the tail-end of them in the 80s.

Several airchecks of WXXQ Freeport, IL running the TM Century Stereo Rock format in the 80s here:

An aircheck of a Rice Lake, WI station running the Drake Chenault Contempo automated format in the early 80s is here:

Two airchecks of a Platteville, WI station running an automated top 40 service in 1985 are here (not sure which service this was):

Wish I had more to share! I am sure others remember these same services in other parts of the country.

You know, I used to hear these automated '80s pop formats and wonder how on earth anybody could stand listening to these boring radio stations.

Now I listen to what they're running today and these old formats actually sound BETTER than what they have today......

The thing is, especially during the early 80s when WBEN-FM 102.5 MHz in Buffalo (Rock 102) aired Stereo Rock, it was the best sounding radio ANYWHERE. Hearing automated no-chatter radio was a novelty then, unlike now. Buffalo was the chief place to hear TM Stereo Rock in Southern Ontario.

The sound quality of TM Stereo Rock (depending on the affiliate) was unparalled. Additionally, they played some interesting edits too. I had long thought that some of these were custom edits, but I more recently learned that I was incorrect.
