Funny, we were thinking the same about KRIZ & KRUX!
KRIZ and KRUX are dead and gone. Only 1/4 of the Monkees are.

Obviously, the "mighty have fallen" even further if they don't get any airplay -- I'd be hard-pressed to think of a single terrestrial AM/FM in the Phoenix area that has played the Monkees very good new album.
I thought the wool hat had disappeared sometime during the first season of the show. IIRC, it was a gimmick that ended up going nowhere.
The Monkees in 2016 are all but irrelevant. I'm shocked that their new album made it to #14 on the Billboard 200 chart, even if was only for one week. I haven't heard the album so I have no idea how good it is (or isn't), therefore I don't have an opinion of it. I'm certainly not going to spend money without hearing a few songs, but I can't see a reason for any radio station to play it so I can.
Name another 'average' band from the 60's that is still "relevant" today. I can think of only one - the Stones - but I don't know how popular they are with the different music generations.
The best band of all time (Beatles) was history by 1969 yet their music lives on.
The Monkees may have been an industry-contrived group but they were definitely popular in their time and some of their music does live on. Maybe the focus groups should present the music for consideration without the group's true name and thereby not influence against it.
The Beach Geezers... er, I mean Boys... are still touring, at least some of them are, between lawsuits.
Their songs will be recorded by other people 100 years from now, even though their own recordings may not be played anymore.
I think the only original Beach Boy now touring with the name is Mike Love. He apparently owns the name now.
Technically, that's correct, although "almost original" member Bruce Johnston is also part of that touring band.

As nurturing as the good Mother has apparently been to the Lumberyard, she also made the old girl at 1440 obsolete in the process.
And today (Fri 03/17) on 92.7/93.3 HD2/1440 at 4:36 PM PT, it was another spin of Bang 545!
No smog in their noggin! Bangin-B.E.G. is a good spin, now are they still latching on to that comb?
I live in Tucson. For some reason this afternoon the local right wing political talker on 1450 was off the air, and to my surprise KAZG was coming in loud and clear. I'd say their signal compared nicely with that of 550 or 620. No station in Tucson is playing oldies from the 1960s so this was a pleasant surprise. I don't know what all the references are to FM frequencies which likely can't be heard outside Maricopa County. One amusing liner was about being better than Cool. Here's hoping that 1450 will have transmitter problems more often.
