Billboard Radio Monitor reports that 98.9 added the new Madonna Track Hung Up.

Now that was suprising. I thought if anyone from the Rhythmic side in Dee Ego was gonna add Madonna, it would be Z90 as they have the heritage with Dance.

What does this say for the whole Rhythmic battle?
______________

A hit is a hit is a hit. Unless it's a mid-chart stiff.
______________

Or, maybe Hip-hop is going the way of the dinasour, as stations discover they can't sell advertising with it.
But that purely a guess...

Advertisers are pretty responsive now, after 20 years of rap and hip hop. The ·2 biller in LA is Power, and even in smaller makrkets like San Antonio, The Beat is also #2 in billings... look at stations like Hot in NY, Power in Miami, B-96 in Chicago, Power in Phoenix... all billig at or above the ratings share they generate.

It's a long way to go to say that XHMORE is on the same level as any of those stations. These are heritage CHRs owned by big companies with lots of experienced sales staff and deep chash flow. Can you say the same about XHMORE?

Except for B 96, none of these is a CHR. They are essentially pure Hip Hop stations, and all went through growth issues. But the format is accepted and bought so there is little stigma on the format. Every station has sales issues, so that is not unique to just More.

In response to the original posting... HUH? 98.9 isn't playing Madonna at all... They look and sound very much like a hip-hop station to me. Personally I think San Diego needs a station somewhere in between 98.9 and 93.3... No rock stuff like 93.3, but a lil' less gangsta stuff than 98.9 plays... most hip-hop stations have forgot they're still targeting 18-34 females (who happen to love madonna)

We had that, it was called Q106, (and for a short while, Star100.7).
Oh well...

They must've stop playing "Hung Up" a couple of weeks ago after a few spins.
