WYSP LONGEST AREA STATION WITH NO CHANGE

Not that anyone really cares, but WYSP is the longest station licensed to Philadelphia without any power/antenna change, still broadcasting. They have not changed from 900 feet with 16kw, 3/4 up the Channel 17 tower, since they signed on with Your Station in Philadelphia in the early 70's, 94.1 was using one of the former WIBG towers, when they were owned by the 117 Ridge Pike culprits, until YSP signed on. Every other station has either moved transmitter locations, changed power or antenna height, except WYSP. They still have a very good signal for over 30 years without upgrading height or power. "Shame its wasted now". The next in line would be the 106.1 frequency, which has been on Mermaid Lane a long time, but with height and power adjustments, odd they also used the Channel 17 tower from the 60's.

Since you mention that the 106.1 frequency, also used the Channel 17 tower from the 60's...

I find that WJJZ gets out much better with it's current configuration than WYSP does, at least here on the Jersey side...

For some strange reason, 106.1 always had a great signal, from the days of WWSH, WWGO, the Top-FM, Eagle and Smooth. The tower is not very impressive, stand alone, rusted and very frail looking, small three bay on the top. I still do not see the new spot for 97.5, the tower is kinda full with all type antennas. Channel 17 used that tower in the early days of UHF before moving to Roxborough in the late 60's. YSP has been on 17's tower since their sign on and move from Ridge Pike.

Except in Manayunk and Roxborough, where it gets interference from the antenna farm. Was kind of frustrating, as a kid, trying to listen to Z/Electric-106 as an alternative to WCAU-FM and getting a bunch of static.<P ID="signature">______________
