WMMR and the over-processing of music

Can anyone tell me what I'm noticing on WMMR's broadcast? The songs seem overly compressed(?) lately. Am I just late in noticing or has this recently been changed or increased?
I'd like someone to explain, in layman's terms, what about the sound is so off to me. It seems like more than just compression. An example would be, I noticed last time they played 'Panama' by Van Halen, that I could barely make out the revving engine in the song. Anyone else notice something 'more' than usual on the broadcast?
