WFAA debuts new set for News 8 and becomes the latest to adopt the new TEGNA graphics

Today, WFAA unveiled it's new updated look when at the noon newscast, WFAA debuted it's new set at it's Victory Park studios and also new graphics, which had been rolling out at their fellow TEGNA sister stations. WFAA also has been slowly rolling out it's updated version of the long time WFAA Logo that the station has had for 22 years by adding a Play symbol on the left side of the logo and on the right side of the logo, the current ABC logo.

At the start of the newscast and during the final full weather segment, Jason Wheeler, who hosted the news at noon revealed a wide shot of the new studios along with Colleen Coyle, who was doing the weather during today's noon newscast, saying they were "Pressing Play to Something New" at the station.

Also, as part of the revamp of the look at WFAA, the name "News 8" has been phased out at WFAA, as it's now know as "WFAA News", phasing out not only the long time name for WFAA's newscast, but also de-emphasize any mentions of the number 8 on the stations name while the logo retains the number 8. A while back, WFAA rolled out a ad campaign that declares that "We are WFAA" instead of being the "Spirit Of Texas".

Also Daybreak was the last newscast to come from their old Young Street studios that they been using the last few weeks as the remodel of the Victory Park Studios was going on. i wouldn't be surprise if the Young Street Studios are next to get a revamp. Daybreak got new separate graphics back in September when WFAA gave a reboot to their long time morning show, i don't know if Daybreak will retain their graphics or will use the new TEGNA graphics too. i know last night's 10 o'clock news cast was the last to use the old graphics that they been using since 2014 when TEGNA phased out the Belo graphics for their in house graphics of that time.

Too bad they didn't go with the red circle 8 from the '60s and '70s. The Play symbol looks tacky.

The set renovations look like they were done on the cheap by retaining most of the wood and only removing what was necessary to accommodate the new fixtures. Looks awful! I would have thought TEGNA would implement the "studio in the round" like the ill-fated (pre-Harvey) new set at KHOU and other sister stations. A complete revamp was expected since the set was a decade old.

But at least they get new graphics, though the opens are much watered down from what was envisioned by the creators.
