WAMU Sells WRAU Ocean City To WGTS

A simulcast of one Washington DC non-comm will give way to another in Ocean City MD.

American University, owner of Public News/Talk 88.5 WAMU Washington DC is selling 88.3 WRAU Ocean City to Atlantic Gateway Communications for $650,000. The buyer operates Christian AC 91.9 WGTS Takoma Park MD/Washington DC. WGTS is currently running a fundraiser to finance the acquisition.

I wonder if WGTS can support the simulcast with 2 other CCM stations in the market (The Bridge and KLove)? Didn’t work so well for WAMU.

It's easier for religious stations to program and fundraise generically than geographically. WAMU is a D.C. NPR affiliate. Ocean City MD is a ways away away from DC. Resident's and tourists to Ocean City probably aren't as interested in what's going on in the nations capital. If anything, they're probably trying to get away from it.

WGTS seems to be doing pretty well fundraising for the signal. Watching the videos they seem to be focusing on DC area beach-goers who want to hear the station after crossing the bay bridge.
