The Shirelles' "Mama Said"

I've been slowly building an oldies collection by buying both online and physical CDs.

The version available on iTunes of "Mama Said" by the Shirelles has a string section that is missing from the one usually played on Oldies stations.
(I have that one on an old cassette tape)

Is the stringless version the one from the single an the version with strings (violins) from the LP? (Are both Original?) ??? ??? ???

Or were those violins overdubbed later? The master recording of backing band and the Shirelles is still the original, but the violins were, in my opinion, mixed a bit high and they detract from the song.

Any advice from the Oldies sages in this Forum?

Thanks.

Those strings were definitely overdubbed later. I checked iTunes (I've never been a big iTunes fan), searching for "Mama Said-Shirelles" and had to scroll down to entry #8 to find the original version.........listed as from the album "Because I Said So". Amazon.com has always worked better for me.
