Studio location

Would it be " cool " or an annoyance for the employees / on air talent to have the studio, production suite, and business office on the strip....? Meaning , the more popular segment of the strip... between MGM/ NY-NY and say the fashion mall.

also have a street front studio or would be that too distracting ? ( as well as expensive)
▪︎
Second choice:
The fremont street experience street front studio... or a second floor studio being able to have a view of the crowd below....

( a ) is this safe for the employees?
( b ) is the noise, from the outside,
specially from fremont
going to be an issue for live broadcasts?
( or canned broadcasts with the background music and crowds cheering on the fremont experience cause station issue ).

iHeartMedia recently moved their Las Vegas studios to Fremont Street. I do not know if they have any streetfront visibility.

Also Kemp's 97.5 KVEG and 106.9 KVGQ are in a strip mall on the Strip across from Mandalay Bay.

It is almost certainly cost prohibitive to do this.

If I was going to build a showcase studio on the Vegas strip, I'd want it to be staffed 24/7, or at least close to it. If you're going to spend big $$$ on the lease of premier real estate, it's probably sending the wrong message to showcase how your studio is empty 14 hours a day.

There's no technical reason a studio could not be built on the strip.

I think the days of 'watching the sausage being made' have passed.

^^^ What they said. In one market where I worked, a company bought 5 or 6 stations that were once smaller "mom and pop" operations. They relocated all their studios to a building on the main thoroughfare in the city, placing each studio in a street-facing window display so everyone walking or driving past got a full view of the studios and happenings inside. Interesting concept back when all those stations were "live and local" 24/7 and I don't believe the on-air staff were bothered much by people milling past or stopping to peer in, but once all but 2 of those stations went satellite or automated and then one of the remaining was automated in the evenings and overnight, it kind of looked silly to go past and constantly see empty or dark studios aside from the lights on the console and the glow of the computer screens. If I'm not mistaken they've since vacated that space, with most of the stations more or less run out of equipment racks in a closet.

I did an internship where the air studio and production facility each had a door to a balcony that overlooked a park and a major cross street in the middle of a downtown area.

It was used mostly for storage as I recall.

A second internship saw the morning crew tote a card table outside and cables strung into the control room. Oh yeah, morning guy actually owned the station. During inclement weather, card table was in reception area.

Fun times.

No need to put a studio on display anymore, unless you are one of the few stations left with a human being sitting behind the mic all day. Watching a computer running the show...boring 💤

I took a tour of the studio across the m'Bay next to the mcDonald's

What did you think about the configuration?
it was in 2004

pretty rad -- studios by the window and a dual vinyl deck for live 24/7 - but that might have been a station secret. Also, it went down the hall way each room serving a purpose,
studio, offices, etc.

It was really accessible, as far as parking, even though I was walking however, the plaza wasn't all that exciting.... be really fun if it was in front of the NY NY casino or the Bellagio fountains.
