Should 97.1 Amp radio add more hip-hop and become a Rhythmic Top 40?

Following Power 106 dumping most of the Rhythmic pop material (Pitbull, Fifth Harmony, Mike Posner, Chainsmokers, etc.) out of their playlist due to it's competition with Urban Real 92.3, L.A. no longer has a real Rhythmic Top 40 since Power 106 is nearly a full-blown Urban, with the exception of Baby Bash and Macklemore, who are technically hip hop.

Given that amp radio is a rhythmic-leaning CHR/Pop, should they just go ahead, add more rap, and become the dancier, "mass appeal" rhythmic. We'll still have KIIS FM for mainstream music. After all, 97.1 has Jeremih's "Oui" and The Weeknd's "Acquainted" in rotation while kiis isn't touching those r&b songs.

Amp Radio has been a rhythmic-leaning pop station since its debut back in 2009. But given Power 106's hip-hop/r&b heavy playlist, I think it would be a good idea if amp became similar to Q104.7 and 99.1 KGGI. That way, it could compete with Power, Real, and Kiis simultaneously.

One thing we will never see is them actually report as a Rhythmic and make that switch. With all the Amp's CBS actually wanted to get away from the Rhythmic label and go Mainstream CHR, see Miami, Chicago, and Las Vegas all previous Rhythmic stations. The only three left I believe at WPGC, WZMX, and KSFM which are all Hip Hop based. The irony is most of CBS's Amp's are the defacto Rythmic to the iHeart's CHR's. Look at WBMP in New York, a simple quarter hour listen and that station sounds like a full traditional Rhythmic but will never report as so. What I think you'll continue to see is KAMP lean Rhythmic, but they could do a better job at talent that actually reflects the market. Los Angeles is just under 50 percent Latino and not one Latino jock on the radio station. KIIS, KPWR, and even KRRL all have it figured out. L.A. is one of those markets that even if you have a Country or Rock station you have to cater to Latino's in order to be successful.

We never know. Maybe somwhere along the line, Power 106 will revert back to mass appeal Rhythmic after realizing dropping the Pop titles in the first place weren't helping them ratings-wise.
