If Chris Rock, Eddie Murphy... or an African-American friend of Russ's wants to use the N-word, no one's going to get in trouble.

I specifically cited Russ's use of the N-word himself. Then leaving it up to his dump button puncher to keep it off the air.

That puts Infinity at risk. Spittle knows Russ does this and let's it ride. Hence my comparison to Bigby's case in Philly.

Bottom line... if the right person hears Russ use the word, or the dump button man has a bad day, Russ will find himself in Kramer & Twitch's shoes.

Will Infinity management change or will it continue its cowardice and demonstrate a lack of morality ... will the general manager of 105.3 simply answer?

Well, that why I say the modern CBS radio ... Infinity is cowardly, without morals.

I stand by that statement until management decides to change.

Even one board op with courage could make all the difference.

If that board op would have the courage to do the right thing, I would stand behind him or her as others would -- go to the newspapers, the wire services ... the networks ... until as Bill Clinton once said, "the last dog dies."

Do what you think is right.

Are you fearless ... or fearful?

Fear is a terrible thing ... and a horrible way to live because ...

You only live ONCE.

Live it fully.

It could all just be theater of the mind, you don't know for SURE that he said the N-word because of the dump button. For all we know he didn't say ANY word and he just hits the button for effect. You can take any recorded sentence that has any word that ends in "er" in it and just bleep the first part of that word and people will swear you said the N-word, again theater of the mind.

Interesting theory. But in this case... wrong.

Mindless theater of the mind ... it sure ain't Orson Welles ...

Why in the world would you want anyone THINKING you said that word?

Would you want your children hearing you do that on the air?

Can you answer that?

As I stated in my headline, this stuff sure isn't Orson Welles material ...

You do remember Orson, don't you :)????

Welles' [sic] 1938 broadcast on CBS Radio (aired in New York
on what was then known as WABC) of ``War of the Worlds''
did panic listeners, per the _New York Times_ article of the
following day Monday, 31 OCT 1938. Urban legends did arise
that deaths from stampedes and suicides were triggered by the
ersatz news bulletins but were subsequently found not credible.

An article in _The Trentonian_ claims that CBS executive Taylor
Davidson demanded he [Welles] break into the program to calm
down all the scared listeners. "They're scared?" Welles shot back.
"Good! They're supposed to be scared!"

Yep, Welles ... careless mistake.

Good book "Rosebud ... The Story of Orson Welles" by David Thomson.

That's interesting ... I did not know that the stampedes and suicides were overplayed by the media ... interesting. Thanks, Bob for that.

You say "Wrong", but you can't be sure. You don't actually really KNOW for sure he said the word off-air while the dump was working. Unless you were in the studio that day or listening on hold you can't say for sure what he did.

Suffice it to say that I DO know.

It's NOT theater of the mind ... It's explicit SHOCK RADIO, Mr. Dilligas ... Russ Martin is NOT the second coming of the Mercury Theater ... get real

Again, what is your point?

Why would anyone even CONSIDER saying the word for any reason?

Well, the reason is simple ... for shock effect.

That is what shock jocks do?

Shock you over and over until you senses are numb and the filth and profanity no longer shock.

Then they go further until the bounds of decency are so blurred that they become invisible.

One question Mr. Dilligas ... just one ...

Do you have children?

Please respond ...

Either on the board or [email protected]

It is not a criticism ... only curious.

And what was the motive to allow such programming on the air?

Again the answer is simple ... to shock ...

Shock people time and time again.

And then the shock wears off.

So the programming gets more and more base, degrading, humiliating ... the worst of the worst in radio programming.

Listen if you want ... it is your choice.

If you would want to waste your time listening to a shock jock blatter on about NOTHING, that is your choice in America.

Well that's easy for anyone to claim with the anonymity that comes with posting on any given forum. How exactly DO you know for SURE what goes on in his studio? Are you really Dan Lewis? A former station intern? Did sales for 105.3?

Tony, instead of giving yourself a nervous breakdown trying save everyone from themselves by cleaning up radio material, (shows that in your opinion shouldn't be aired), why not prove how wrong they are, and how right you are by starting your own show and kicking their ass in the ratings with clean radio? If your opinion is correct the public will flock to your show.

On a side note you have woke this forum up, it was getting a little slow there (LOL).

Tony, you asked "what's the point?", the point is that you didn't actually hear him say the word on the air. All the listener heard was the gap where the dump was hit. You are only assuming he said a disparaging word, the listener is left to fill in the gap left by the dump. If the listener assumes the worst, that shows where his brain is at.

Doesn't make sence getting mad about something you didn't actually hear a host say on the air just because you yourself filled in the gaps. You can't fault the host for what the listener imagines was said.

If the majority of the listeners agree with your morilaty stance on any given show (Stern, Leykis, RMS, etc, etc), then it will/should be reflected in the ratings in some way.
Edited by DILLIGAS on 01/29/06 11:36 PM.

I have made my point over and over ... listen to Martin and Stern all you want ... it is fine with me ... but you will never change my opinion, OK?

Look Dilligas ...

I have said over and over and over again ...

If anyone wants to listen to Martin and Stern, it is fine with me.

No problem.

But I have my opinion, and I expressed it.

I have no fear ... none ... understand.

Because if I never work in radio again ... I will be fine.

I am lucky ... one lucky guy.

Listen to that crap all you want ... with my blessing.

Also you might try "spell check" or the dictionary Dilligas.

It's sense ... not "sence".

Sometimes your posts make me wonder if you have any sense.

And by the way, what is "Dilligas"?

Tony

I don't know who you are, and you don't know who I am. I understand why you can't trust an anonymous claim made on this board. But in this case... You're not my target audience.

What's important to me is that the RMS people take notice. And I bet they have. Maybe they'll get smart and remove the N-word from their pre-dump button banter.

If they don't, well... time will tell.

The Network announcer did announce that listners were tuned to the Mercury Theatre's Presentation of Hg. Wells "War of the Worlds"halfway through the program.

You people are the saddest bunch I have ever heard of in my life. You are all such big men on this board. Fact of the matter is, you all couldn't get a job in radio if your life depended on it. Not even in promotions. I'm sure you think you could, if someone was brave enough to see the real talent and not guided by corporate bs. Most of you seem to think you had something to offer radio and just weren't given the right opportunity....Wrong!!!! Is that why you all seem so angry about Russ? He's a local guy who worked his way up and made it? Does it just eat at you all that he's number one in almost every demo? And as for your dislike of Gavin Spittle. Regardless of what you hear on the RMS or what you think of 105.3, if any of you had his track record for turning around stations and getting ratings, you would have a job in radio.

I've seen, read, and heard self righteous people before, but Tony, you take the cake. Tony, at what point did your life take such a nosedive that at 53 years old your life's work seems to be posting on an obscure radio site? "I will not compromise my ethics"!!!! You don't have to, nobody is going to give you the chance. I'm sure that's why you're so bitter. You never had the chance in the first place. "You worked at 20 stations..a nomad" No, you weren't a nomad, you sucked. Anyone with talent can get and keep a job. You wrote a (one) speech for Annette Strauss and a position paper for Gary Hart? That's your claim to fame? Oh, I forgot, you're going to have an internet radio show. WOW! That is impressive. Are you going to go that extra mile and have a website too? And please get your politics straight. If you are so against Russ Martin and Howard Stern, then you should embrace Bush 43 because his FCC appointees cracked down on those people. Furthermore, your love for the Kennedy family is pathetic. Despite what you want to believe, Teddy killed a woman, LBJ did more than JFK and RFK did even less. It is sad that of the three we were left with Teddy.

Although I know none of you have ever heard Russ say the "n-word", you seem to like to talk about what's going to happen to him if he did. So, here is a little lesson in the law....broadcasters are generally protected by the 1st amendment, which includes racially offensive speech. And as for your notion of some brave board op taking control.....Russ runs his own board. Oops.
