I think KPWR did it first---KMEL went rhythmic a bit later after launching as a mainstream CHR.
By the way, it's 72-thousand watts.
Years later, KPWR had to drop that 72k ERP quite a bit when they moved their antenna up to Mt. Wilson.

And the entire SBS group, as well as KLVE in LA before that. He began with Bill Tanner and Russ Oasis in Miami in the late 80's.
Wouldn’t be surprised if he does a overhaul and not just at KPWR either.
