Pirating Stern

Noticed a few news stories today about pirates re-broadcasting Stern for free. Sirius says it will defend its property, and should. But one can't escape the irony of Howard now turning to the very enforcement body he long skewered for protection. Fascinating. Be careful what you ask for. You just might get it.

And before anyone notes that this isn't the Sirius board - if I can hear it in my truck, it's local.

I thought this might eventually happen, just not so soon. And esp here in DFW (not really known for its pirates). I'm not a big Stern fan myself but do think he might not be all that upset with the situation.
Insert the line: "I cried all the way to the bank".

No worries about posting here about Sirius….if you live in Dallas and have Sirius this is where you should post your comments. In 6 months everybody on here will be doing the same thing anyway, I mean did anyone actually notice the morning edge was gone let alone give a (BLEEP).

You wanna talk about pirating, my best friend lives in a nice community in N.Dallas and has a Sirius receiver that he takes in his home. He connects it to his upstairs office so he can have it transmitted wirelessly through his whole house. He has a friend that lives a few blocks away in the same community that can pick up my friends signal on his FM receiver inside his house. No amps, no boost, no nothing….just the right place at the right time. Hell, I can drive along side of him on the road and tune my car into the FM frequency he’s using and pick up his signal. Nobody is doing anything illegal, no FCC rules have been broken. So I would have to say there’s a new pirate…..Howard Stern has a new home in Dallas... 87.5 FM…..at least somewhere off Arapaho

It wont be Howard turning to the FCC but Sirius.....big difference there..
Howard is still able to say what he says and could care less if a pirate rebroadcasts him...its no money out of HIS pocket...he is getting his half BILLION up front...It IS money out of Sirius' coffers though...

There was an article in the Boston Herald about Sirius going after someone who was streaming Stern's show. Very interesting reading. Here's the link:

An endorsement for Sirius. At least you're honest. But why would you listen to your own station once you leave the building? You can own its entire playlist after a quick $300 trip to the iTunes store.

Infinity is busy spreading "conventional wisdom" among its PDs and GMs that Satellite Radio is about to die. A sad bit of brain washing, but not too tough to pull off given the pods they've been hiring in recent years.

The most difficult job at Infinity these days is keeping a straight face--and hiding any trace of cynicism--when you find yourself stuck in a conversation with a PD who is fresh back from a corporate meeting.

What I listen to when I leave the building.

Everything.

It's the best way to steal good material. ;)

It's CBS once more there Trent, and you are so right. Real estate sales men always give an upbeat presentation when the property has toxic waste buried on it.

What do expect to hear from the idiots at Infinity/CBS Radio? I'm not surprised at all to hear this from them!

My Sirus XACT VISOR UNIT, can be heard almost a full mile away from my house, and all I did was stick a wire into the FM OUT jack. I think these so called Pirate stations, are nothing more than people picking up other peoples Sirius FM Modulators. Their may be one, or two actual STERN pirates out their, but c,mon, Why would you want to risk getting a 10,000 dollar FCC fine, just to rebroadcast other peoples material,,, I mean,, What is in it for the pirates that broadcast Stern,,,,(NOTHING)......

[10,000 dollar FCC fine] only if your last name
is "Brewer" and you didn't learn the first time (from
the 1st FCC visit that is).
