So Citadel changes heritage WKY to Spanish... I believe this is their first Spanish station.

I can not get it here off the Stemmons in the hotel, as there is too much buzz.

WKY does make it into DFW, if you can get away from power lines, etc...and reasonably decent signal in Denton and Collin counties.

Suprised David didn't mention it...locally, Univision's KDXX 107.1 and KLNO 94.1 sort of swapped. "Recuerdo" is now on 94.1 and 107.1 is now regional Mexican "107.1, Las Mas Picuda." With KEGL's ratings racing upward, it gives Univision an equal signal for "Recuerdo" to compete against.

With KZMP 1540 and KZMP-FM 104.9 recently picking up Entravision's Radio Tricolor regional Mexican feed, every Spanish-language FM except KTCY 101.7 and KESS-FM 107.9 has changed format in the last year.

I was too busy doing it to mention it, I guess.

The interesting thing is the crash and burn of the cumbia or Mexican tropical format. When gato briefly hit #1 early 2004, 99.1 entered that arena briefly, leaving to do reggaetón. Gato 104.9 just went regional, after seing th eformat come and go in less than 24 months.

1). What format offered in the English language is the
closest equivalent to Regional Mexican?

2). To what extent does Regional Mexican overlap listenership
with the formats now provided by KEGL and KLNO?

Country. Even the demos are pretty comparable. Regional is the country music of Mexico.

Both have regional components as part of a broader blend. KEGL has moved to near 70% regional in the last few weeks as they prepare to launch a second satellite network, La Romántica. KLNO is 70's, 80's and 90's mostly, covering 3 or 4 broad genres of songs that were popular in Mexico in the last 35 to 40 years. The difference between this and Jack, which covers many decades, is that KLNO and KEGL are also personality stations, whether networked or not.

Is La Romantica a clone of the "Amor" format, or the recently departed K-Love in Houston? Wonder if CC would actually go with TWO Hispanic targeted formats in DFW?

La Romántica is not like KOVE or KLVE. It is very oldies based, mostly 70´s, and has a much larger playlist. It is playing at least twice the number of songs of KLVE in LA.
