Nexstar/Mission buys WADL

WADL could be the new home of the CW. I understand that WKBD was one of the stations losing their CW affiliation because of CBS refusal to run with the LIV contract and its contract with the PGA tour.

“ On October 29, WADL temporarily stopped carrying The CW Network. Late last week, you agreed to carry The CW without compensation and with knowledge of the above-referenced agreement and business relationship with Mission.

By agreeing to carry The CW not on market terms, you are interfering with and impacting WADLs' business relationship and expectancy with Mission. Agreeing to carry The CW implies an improper purpose and constitutes tortious interference under well established Michigan law.

Your conduct also exposes you to claims for civil conspiracy as it appears that you and The CW are engaging in a plan to interfere with and harm WADLs' business relationship with Mission.

WADL and Mr. Adel demand that you cease and desist this conduct immediately, and they intend ot hold you responsible for al damages associated with this wrongful action.”

Kevin Adell might be the most incompetent broadcaster on Planet Earth. Whatever claims he has here were forfeited the second he issued the press release “WADL has thrown the CW out of Detroit”. He has no standing against Nexstar or Scripps and this won’t stop anything. And honestly, the only person he should be upset at is himself because he threw away a chance at selling a mere piece of paper and a bunch of programming contracts for the grossly inflated amount of $75M.

Consider when going back as 1994 when Fox signed a deal with New World Communications, Adell thought he gonna sign a deal with CBS to replace WJBK after attempts to sign with WXYZ, WDIV, WMYD, and WKBD failed, CBS in a desprate move ended up with WWJ instead since WADL wanted a 5 year deal than what CBS offer for a paltry 1 year affiliation deal.
 
Update. The WADL sale is unlikely to be approved by the FCC and probably dead according to Kevin Adell. However, if the sale is not approved, Adell plans to enter into the same kind of "shared services agreement" that Nexstar has with KAZT in Phoenix, in which Adell will continue to own the station and Nexstar will manage it.

Boy is Kevin going to be disappointed when Nexstar tells him to pound sand. You don't nuke a deal in the most careless and self-serving of ways and expect them to ever do business with you ever again.

Neither of them need another station in Detroit and Adell's behavior is toxic enough to make the station an unsalable asset.
