When you post double, then we REALLY know you mean it. ha.
The new ND at Ch 8, Michael Valentine, is trying to make his mark quickly at the station, and the morning news was just as good a place to start as any. No doubt that Ch 8 would like to capture the same 'anchor play' that Ch 4 has and has done well with. Michael Rey's a nice guy, but basically a cold fish on the air. I'm sure Debbie Denman's nice as well, but she was forever in the shadow of Deborah Duncan. Alexa? Don't get me started. And Scott Sams' firing has nothing to do with this situation. The ratings were tanking long before he was fired. The "Formula" there does not work anymore, and that will have to be fixed before anyone there can expect success. I hope Valentine understands that.
OK, as far as the new anchors go, Hyland was best known for having a bucket of water dumped on her from the 4th floor of a building that she was standing in front of, preparing to do a live report for the 10PM news. And her husband's a New York cop, for what that's worth. She's 36, and white. I say that because, based on a photo I saw, she looks very conscious of her status as a TV babe, and I can already sense the upcoming tension with her and Alexa trying to steal camera time from each other.
Justin Farmer (which would seem to be a more appropriate name for Justin Frazell!) worked here as a reporter for Ch 33 News, and the Front Burner also mentions him being at TXCN before. I don't know his track record in Denver, but I'd assume that Valentine feels a kinship there, since Valentine himself came out of a mid-market to cash in on stripes he never earned. Farmer looks to be late 20s or early 30s.
And how will they mesh? Based on looks, who knows. Both are "pretty." Their ability to interview will be very important, and Farmer's previous experience on Denver TV's morning show means he will be leaned upon to bring new ideas to "Good Morning Texas." Let's hope he has some.
