New Smooth Jazz Station In Anchorage

Courtesy of: http://radioinsight.com/blog/headlines/55181/the-oasis-movin-into-anchorage/#.Twkcs5hvlqE

In mid-November Rhythmic AC “Movin 104.9” KMVV Anchorage dropped its format for Christmas Music as “Rudolph Radio“. That lasted until New Years Eve when the old format returned, at least until midnight when the station went dark.

The station, owned by World Radio Link had been operated by Alaska Integrated Media. While still dark as of this writing, it appears the station will soon return to air under the management of Christian Broadcasting Inc. featuring a Smooth Jazz format.

CBI, which owns Christian CHR “Z93.7” KAFC and Christian Talk 89.3 KATB in Anchorage, has registered Smooth1049.com and Oasis1049.com for the new format. A partially completed website is live at both domains.

Interesting. Doesn't Anchorage already have a smooth jazz station? One of those low-power outfits like Chicago has. KNIK-LP 87.7 according to my records.

^ Was going to post that myself! Anyway---a radio station going **to** Smooth Jazz? When was the last time of that?? :)

BTW I used to be a member of the church whose ministry runs 89.3/93.7....those stations did not exist when I was there.

You are correct. http://www.knik.com/ 87.7 The Breeze, Jazz and Blues

They might move 87.7 to 104.9, don't see them having two stations in one city. We'll see.

Remember, 87.7 is not a radio station. It's the audio portion of an analog TV station on the old Channel 6. Those things may not last much longer. Eventually, the FCC (or the declining number of analog receivers left) will make the low-power TV stations switch to digital, too, which will make them incompatible with FM radio receivers.

Even while they last, the 87.7 stations are at a serious loudness disadvantage, since TV audio is not allowed the same deviation as FM radio.

Will 104.9 be local, or will it be BA sat-fed, like WAEG? Would love to hear a station similar to the former WSJW again.
