I have just ran into a new Classic Country Station from St. Louis, MO.
In 1990, Classic Country WIL 1430 went to adult standards and picked up WRTH call letters. The station did pretty well, but in 2003, they went the way of "Real Oldies"". After an FM station reverted back to oldies, 1430 WRTH went to standards.
Now it looks like we are back to the WIL AM calls, and the station is now called "Country Legends 1430".
The site is www.legends1430.com and the best part is that the station streams live on the internet!
This station sounds like a good Classic Country station. It is not just a retro country station with all Alabama, Gatlin, and Garth. they do reach back to Patsy, Marty Robbins, and George Jones. It's a really good station that can be heard online. The music goes back to the 60's and really picks up the songs the stations on the FM stopped playing.
The AM 1430 signal is not very good in St. Louis, so I hope the station works. It gets really directional at night, and there are parts of the metro that can't hear it at all.
Cardinal fans will have to get used to streaming anyway with the loss of the KMOX flagship pending. Maybe the Classic Country fans in St. Louis (especially to the East) will also get used to streaming, hopefully.
WIL FM 92 plays mostly Nashville Pop, so WIL AM sort of compliments the FM.
St. Louis has been without a Country station since 1993, when Classic Country 55 K-USA became KTRS, Talk radio.
Welcome back country music to St. Louis.
