Live performances

I have found Youtube to be a great source of live performances of some of my favorite music. I almost prefer listening to the live versions over the pre-recorded stuff we hear every day on the radio. So my question is: why don't some radio stations play more live performances of songs to mix things up a little bit? Are there any stations out there that do this on a regular basis? Is there a licensing issue? I know some of the satellite channels might do this or actually have artists perform live on their channels, but I'm talking about terrestrial radio.
