Licensing Agreement With ABC Network

I read on http://www.jack.fm/ that a licensing agreement is in the works.

I think having a syndicated satellite Jack is the natural progression for this format. Part of the appeal is lower operating costs with no jocks. Satellite syndications will remove more expenses and open up the main National Jack to small markets.
______________

"In the works"? It's already operating and has been since October 1st. Our local station here in Savannah, Georgia - 98.3 JACK FM - is owned by Triad Broadcasting and uses SparkNet's run-by-ABC Radio Networks satellite feed. I also believe the Knoxville market is using the satellite feed as well. There are other markets also using the satellite. It's a no-brainer for this format - it keeps costs low, as you said, and isn't reliant on on-air personalities, except for Howard Cogan's JACK liners.
Edited by FilmCritic3000 on 11/26/05 09:08 AM.

Yes, losing Howard Cogan here on Bob-FM ticked me off and continues to. They had to give him up and there has been no satellite Jack here to compete with Bob-FM. Now I can only hear him on net streams.

ME TOO! ME TOO! :)

I like the Variety Hits format in general, and especially like Cogan's dry yet funny imaging.

Driving through southern Pennsylvania on the Turnpike recently...I stumbled upon a classic rocker which uses Cogan for its imaging:

In fact, besides the Hagerstown classic rocker, Mr. Cogan's ONLY other non-variety hits radio client in North America is comedy talker KCMD/970 "Johnson 970" in Portland. He does list a couple of BOB FMs (Norfolk and Santa Rosa) and even a "JOE FM" in Edmonton.

My 3 year old just busts up when he hears the "Jack" Cogan liners here in Sacto!
It is the cutest thing. He goes around and randomly refers to objects or people as Jack FM! Weird but brilliant!
