Les Smith retiring from WHBQ in Memphis after more than a decade

For three anxious minutes we all watched a story unfold live before our eyes. There was a fight breaking out between teens and a few adults near Foote Homes.

Viewers watched the fight, but many of us at FOX13 were watching Les Smith in a situation we had never seen before.

For more than 11 years, I've watched Les. He has always been wise, thoughtful and productive; never moving too slow and never too fast.

One day away from retirement, he was running into a fracas.
