Gow, I heart, Cumulus, Entercom,Univision, Estrella/Liberman and the entire world is hurting. Radio advertising is down as much as 65% for the second quarter of this year, and that the drop is expected to continue through 2021.
The previous 800 watt signal was lousy in most of the market. And, it had a directional pattern originating south of Loop 610 aimed right at Belllaire, so the signal in SW Houston would not have been good.
The fact that it is being heard in Wyoming would seem to indicate that the night array is badly out of whack. I have to wonder how much of KGOW's transmitter woes are due to inadequate engineering expertise--we are constantly hearing that competent broadcast transmitter engineers are getting harder to find, as younger people with technical talent are going into more lucrative high tech industries.
I wonder if co-channel KTXZ in Austin, whose own transmitter is only 110 miles west of the KGOW night site, is experiencing more interference..
Read in trades that AM station (maybe describing KULF?) with FM translator on the block again. Listen to KULF and was off the air at the time. Comments anyone?
Heard country on kulf 1090 am. Tried translator 102.5 fm. Wasn't sure if fm was translator or Bay City FM.
Heard Gospel programming on KULF 1090 AM during the evening, think was a Saturday. However, still hearing same foreign stuff during the day. Is another AM covering KULF or did they broker some different programming at night?
You were probably hearing KAAY in Little Rock, which can make it into Houston at night with a listenable signal. If KULF is off during critical hours, the KAAY signal can be quite strong at those times, as they are 50kw nondirectional during the day.
Heard KULF is still on the market, but at reduced price. The FM translator was being repaired earlier this year. However, the FM translator is 102.5. With everything else going on on 102.5, don't think that would work, unless applied for a different frequency. That is FM is pointed away from Houston area.
