KKIX (Kix-104)--103.9 MHz Fayetteville, AR 11 October 1996

KKIX Fayetteville ("Kix 104") has been a staple of northwest Arkansas radio since 1984. Here is a recording of the station a few years before its iHeart/Clear Channel ownership. This was recorded on 11 October 1996. The file is 192/44.1 and can be found at this link:

Do any of you remember the previous station that existed on 103.9 MHz in Fayetteville? It was an Easy Listening station called KNWA. My aunt played on a bowling team that had KNWA as a sponsor back in the late 1970's-early 1980's. Back then the station was a class A, but operated with 880 watts--far less than the allowed 3 kW a class A could operate at the time.

Around the time of that recording, Noalmark announced it was selling KKIX/KKZQ to Gulfstar. Gulfstar would also make a run at Demaree's KKEG and KFAY AM/FM, though the DOJ reportedly nixed that deal. So, it bought KJEM 93.3 from Elvis Lee Moody 6 months to a year later.
