KKFR Teases "Something New" on Friday

Desert Valley Media Group Hip Hop "Power 98.3/96.1" KKFR Mayer/K241BQ Ft McDowell is currently teasing "something new" launching this Friday at 5:00 PM. It held a 1.8 share in the July books, down from a 1.9 in June, and, unless this will be a relaunch, will leave KMXP-HD2 as the only Phoenix-based station broadcasting a form of rhythmic CHR.

UPDATE: Meant "98.3".

Given that their sister station at 97.5/103.9 is Rhythmic Hot AC, one can expect they’re looking at either expanding the coverage or adopt a different direction like Hispanic Rhythmic. Another could be a rebranding or they’re adding a new air staffer.

The trend right now in CHR is play more gold because the currents suck, but that would put them too close to their sister station.
Super-serving the Hispanic market would be a smart play; that's how Power made a name for itself in the late 80s at 92.3.

When KKFR first became Power, it was a mess of Urban AC in the day and Alternative at night until Don Kelly was hired as a consultant. Kelly's blueprint was to super-serve Hispanic females and that's when the station really took off. Freestyle is no longer a thing, but there's money to be made from catering to today's Hispanic women.
