KBIG Mixing in Mono Again!

What's the deal? What kind of an idiot board op do you have to be to not know the music is in MONO.

I've been listening since about 8:35 w/ Shalamar's "Make that Move" and with the exception of the Shake Your Groove Thing, the spots, beds and imaging, the music is all in mono AGAIN.

Has anyone emailed CC about this? I know this has happened in the past.

I'm cursed tonight. First KBIG ruins its mixes by airing them in mono (for the record a total of 5 songs between 8:30 PM and 10:00 PM were in stereo. The rest were all in mono).

So then I'm tuning down the dial and find another old school mix on 93.5 KDAY. Again, ALL IN MONO. Hey Julio G can't you tell?

Good classic hits mixed in a row. I had a deja vu moment that I was listening to KUTE 102...

Le Freak/Chic
Ain't No Stoppin' Us Now/ McFadden and Whitehead
It's A Love Thing/Whispers
Disco Nights/GQ
Don't Stop Till You Get Enough/Michael Jackson
I Want To Be Your Lover/Prince

Ruined again by being in mono. I listened beyond the mix and all I can say is KDAY is one MESS of a radio station. The best thing that could happen to KDAY is Styles doesn't get the financing for the station and has to surrender it to SBS. Please put it out of its misery before its too late.

Please call the studio when you hear this! That way, the board op can check and see if there's anything wrong on the studio end.

I'll pass this along to the engineers and the board ops and try to figure out what's going on, but when I was listening for a while this evening it sounded fine.

And if I may ask, where were you listening? You're not in a fringe area, are you?

At home in West L.A.. I've got a strong, clear signal and a scope. Most of the mix was in mono with the exception of Push It, Days Go By, Locamotion and two other songs I do not recall (the song leading into "Radio Medium" was in stereo)
I was listening non-stop between 8:35 and 10. Some nice TSL but sorry no diary this year. I had a few last year...but I gave it all to talkradio.

Re: I'm Cursed Tonight

imnabwon,

This probably is not your problem but it is a hell of an anecdote: Several years ago I was at the House of Blues on Sunset for some heavy metal show and the volume was way, way loud. I asked the bartender for some earplugs to no avail. I went into the bathroom and pull out some of those course hand towels. I broke some off into little tiny bits and wet them. And of course, I stuffed them into my ears. It never seemed like one or two pieces was doing the trick so I put a whole bunch into my ears. Well, at the time, it seemed to do the job. Music was muffled to my liking.

I go home that night, pull out a tweezers, and attempt to pull the paper out of my ears. I think I got all of it.

A week goes by, and when I'm sleeping, I can hear heart rhythms from my ears. That's what it sounds like, I swear. Soon after, I'm listening to a boom box, FM radio, KBIG, and I swear the thing was coming out in mono. I call the station to complain. They say there is no problem. Must be me.

Make a long story short, a year goes by and I'm in the shower, and I feel something creeping out of my ears. I hear a popping sound, like when your ears pop when on an airline flight. I step out of the shower, take a Q-tip and start messing around with both ears. And I pull out HUGE pieces of paper caked in ear wax.

My hearing is fine now.

And I get KBIG in stereo.

: )

For the record, everything heard on Friday night was in stereo.

Referencing Glenn's post about having an oscilloscope, should he pull the paper out of its ears too?

I've done enough engineering in my life to know how to use a 'scope to tell when audio is mono or stereo, and I have no doubt Glenn knows how as well.
