What is the deal with the contract dispute? Why would Lynch just up and decide to try to pay them less? It sounds like there is something fishy behind the scenes that neither side is disclosing....

When Lynch & Co. took over the stations, It's assumed they also take over all the standing debt, contracts and other obligations. Is that not the case?

If they short-change employee checks without the consent of the employees, that sounds illegal. But like you said, it really seems like the "whole" story is not being divulged.

What is almost certain is that another morning show is gone for good. The money is not there, and/or companies are not willing to pay the over-inflated salaries for over-inflated egos. They've been living high on the hog for so long, they feel entitled.

Meanwhile, the too-close-to-minimum-wagers trudge along doing the grunt work for the majority of stations that are not on sindicated or voice-tracked programming.

If radio has not hit bottom, it's gonna be an ugly sight when it does.

Uh... John Lynch didn't "take over" XX1090, he started it. As I recall (because I was there), he built it from scratch, and hired the staff he used to have at the old XTRA 690. At the time, Clear Channel had let most of the San Diego based staff go and merged it with their LA operations. XTRA had become an LA station.

Lynch already ran 1090, 1700, and 105.7. He took over Z90, (re-took over 91X), and Magic 92.5. Lynch now has a large locally run cluster. Six stations... Just like another company in the San Diego area...

related to FCB...Lynch did not assume contracts or debts of FCB...

but as someone pointed out that had nothing to do with 1090

These two gentlemen will not appear on KGB as the new morning show. Take it to the bank.

Kaplan & Smith heading back to 1090

According to Jay Posner at the U/T....

'Scott and BR' return to XX Radio Friday

Nearly three weeks after they took themselves off the air in a contract dispute, Scott Kaplan and Billy Ray Smith will return to the XX Sports Radio morning show starting at 5 a.m. Friday.

Jack Evans, vice president of programming and operations for Broadcast Company of the Americas, which owns XX Sports, made the announcement Thursday afternoon.

“After lengthy, good-faith negotiations by all parties involved, I am very happy to announce to you the issues have been resolved,” Evans said on the air.
