Does anyone know what is going on with this station? I used to listen to it when I would visit the Dallas area but I cannot pick up anything when I tune into it. Have not seen any news that it had shut down.

Probably antenna work related to pending move to IBOC.

I just tuned them in on the web. The audio is GREAT! Hugh Beavers knows his stuff!

I just tuned in again this afternoon. It changed. Not so good now.

I have a theory that there are a lot of outside variables that influence the sound of a web stream which may be beyond the control of the broadcaster. To some degree, it seems to depend on how it is routed on the Internet at any given moment. I suspect this is more prevalent on low bit rate streams. Getting 24 KBs to sound good is nothing short of a miracle. Since these things rely on algorithms that "fill in the blanks,” it is easy to understand how any loss of information along the way makes it even more difficult to reconstruct quality audio on the receiving end. MP3 is amazing technology, but it does have its limitations.

Excuse me - but if he were a great engineer, he would not be so gung-ho about this train wreck called IBOC! So far, the only people I know who are touting its merits are sell-outs to Clear Channel and Ibiquity. Everybody knows AM IBOC is unworkable at night, has horrible coverage problems, will abruptly blend to extremely loud noise under power lines, and sounds little better than streaming audio over dial-up (Ibiquity's own sample on their web site). KAAM audio used to be fantastic, and combined with C-Quam you could hear it in stereo almost to Lubbock in the West, and close to Houston in the South.

Hue knows how to make audio sound great. I don't know what he thinks about IBOC. Before kaam went digital, imho, they had the best audio processing. He is one of the few that knows how to make digital audio sound almost as good as analog. IE:Wolf
