ICANN annouces new top level domains.

Or that addys don't have to have www in front of a web page. Ex; http://marquetteradio.mu.edu (Marquette's Campus Radio Station) was always written www.marquetteradio.mu.edu by people. Unless they changed it, the 2nd address would not even resolve.

Totally useless. Consumers want legitimate-sounding, easy-to-remember web site addresses. They might remember the main part of the URL, but will often forget the extension, in which case they automatically substitute ".com" -- and that can easily get you in trouble if your site has some new, unknown extension which nobody will remember.

Dot com, dot org, dot net, dot edu, dot gov. Everything else is useless. Even when it's an org site, smart folks register dot com as well so it works for those who think everything ends in dot com.

One thing I've always wondered is, if there's a .COM for Internet addresses, why isn't there also an .EXE or .BAT?

Not a bad idea. Instead of wasting time waiting for viruses to hit, we could go to executable websites and get them immediately.

You too, huh?!

First time I ever heard a website address, I thought the ".com" meant you were downloading a program called, for example, radio-info.com, and the "www" meant that you were telling the computer that it had to look on the internet to find it (later found out it's technically not necessary to type the "www").

I'm sure glad that's not the way it works (see previous reply to this).<P ID="signature">______________
