I Wish It Was 1981 Again

'Living Inside Myself' and 'I Just Wanna Stop' were GREAT songs. I program those, as well. Also, 'Being With You'. I think it's Mauriat or Caravelli that have a GREAT version of 'Being With You' that is on our TM/TM Century B/EZ library. These songs were being played on CHR stations then. However, people who were listening to them as teenagers then are in their upper 30's and lower 40's now...inside the 35-64 bracket. They obviously make memories for us...I was 10 that year. My dad worked for an AC station...so, I remember them well.

The 1980 post below inspired me...

I played everyone of these songs on my Internet station and I felt I didn't get enough steady response or points.

It's interesting to note that one of 1981's biggest hits was by an artist considered a mainstay of the soft AC format, yet you probably wouldn't hear it on a soft AC station back then - Olivia's "Physical."

You are right. I think, back then, given the medium tempo and the lyrics, it would not qualify as Soft AC (in '81). I do know that 'DUV plays 'Magic' by Olivia Newton-John.

1981 has been criticized as a "doldrum" year for Top 40 radio. Critics say that top 40 was far too AC in 1980-1981.

I was a teen at the time and thought many of the songs listed in this thread were "just OK" at the time. But if I hear them now I love and appreciate those songs more than ever. On the other hand, I thought "In the air tonight" was cool at the time. But if I hear it now I punch out within seconds. I consider it one of the most overexposed pieces of music of all time.
