How Townsquare can take on WLLR

The answer is simple. Flip the 99.7 B100 to country (obviously), then turn off its current transmitter, and the move it to the Mercer County and Rock Island County boarder, and then increase the stations wattage so much so, that it's coverage are combines the old coverage area of B100 (Iowa City and Cedar Rapids coverage in addition to the Quad Cities), along with WLLR's current coverage area, which would produce a coverage area that looks like so.Capture.jpg Although, I don't think the FCC would allow Townsquare to get wattage higher than 100,000. I mean, they could try and manipulate a 100,000 watt transmitter to produce that kind of signal, but it would be very hard to do. Heck, I don't think the FCC would allow B93 in Grand Rapids, Michigan to keep it's power of 320,000 watts, if they were to relocate to the Quad Cities, and B100 to Michigan (B93 is grandfathered in). Even if the FCC allowed that, their signal doesn't appear to be much bigger than B100's current coverage area. With a coverage area that big, WLLR will be panicking on what to do, cause moving the transmitter to where B100's currently sits would not do much, and they would lose some listeners in the process (whether it be their radios cannot pick up WLLR as good, or they're out of their signal entirely) other than adding in Iowa City and Cedar Rapids, Iowa, which will compete some with the 99.7 country, but not do well. Plus the Cedar Rapids, Iowa City, and even some Waterloo, Iowa based country stations would also lose listeners to this country superstation, and while some listenership may remain loyal to the station, advertisers would start to pull out and start investing money into 99.7 country, forcing the IC/CR/WL country stations to close. Eventually, WLLR would sink to the bottom as well, forcing Iheart radio to abandon country and put on a new format as, as long as 99.7 country is around, WLLR doesn't stand a chance. The new format for the 103.7? Maybe classic hits to take on KIIK. Would be successful as WLLR's signal is a lot more powerful than KIIK's signal, which would force KIIK to flip, possibly back to Rock 1049, like it was before the switch to country, or they could do Hot Adult Contemporary redux, and revive the star branding as Star 104.9. Since 104.9 will probably drop the KIIK calls (and possibly go back to KQCS if they do Hot AC again, or adopt KROC if they do rock), that allows WLLR to file a callsign change to KIIK, and thus brand itself as KIIK 104, like it had been when they were doing top 40. Just a theory that is FAR from reality.
