It was a diamond ad, as noted above. Thankfully, not everyone understands or gives a rats you know what about how radio stations are allotted by the FCC, especially AM.
Wow, isn't that the truth. The FCC stopped accepting new applications for new AM Daytime Only Stations around 1987-88. There is a man named James Potter that has a petition for a rulemaking for LPAMs. They would be 250 watts daytime and 100 watts at night. That will never happen because over half of the band is occupied buy the Class "A", 50,000, blow torch stations owned by iHeart Media (was Clear Channel) Cumulus and Gaylord's WSM-AM 650. The only way this would work would be assign them to Class "C" channels, know of the AM Channels channels of 1230,1240,1340,1400,1450, and 1490. Also, iHeart Media is still working with this defunct Digital AM System that cause adjacent channel interference.
What was discussed by a petition by the so call AM Daytimers Association was that a Class "D" AM Station could switch to a congestive Class "C" Channel at night, but the FCC said no at that time. The excuse was they said the six Class "C" Channels were already so full that they feared there could be interference to a full time "Class C" Station that runs 1,000 watts, day & night.
What could have been proposed, take some of the channels up in the extended AM Band, like 1610, that is not used by any full time Class "B" Station at this time, and assign then to be low powered 250 Watt Daytime-100 Watt Nighttime, "Class C" Channels. Back then, that would have been good idea, but today, since there are 10,000 Watt Daytime and 1000 Watt, Nighttime Stations up in the extended band, it can't be done due to the stations that are in the extended band now would file a petition to deny on such ruling.
The AM Revitalization Act that Commissioner Paj at the FCC has brought up during the Obama Administration has been nothing but useless. In stead of working to improve the AM Band, the AM Radios, it's just turned into a "Let's get a FM Translator" being the answer. No, that is not the answer to fixing the AM Band. All that's doing is AM Stations going dark with only using a FM Translator and the AM Band's Spectrum would be used for some other digital/internet use. Tell you what, it's a political mess in Washington!
