Is there as much of a push to develop HD Radio in our neighbors to the south as there is here in the USA? If so, what is the status and plans for the development of this new technology?
______________

Mexico is the only country that has tested and is considering it for approval. I believe every other coutnry is waiting to see how it rolls out in the US.

Keep in mind that radio does not have anywhere the issues in Latin America it does in the US as far as competitive media. An iPod in Peru is costs more than 3 times the monthly minimum wage after import taxes are added...a Play Station game is a week's wages... cable is far less developed... and there is far less spanish content on the Web.

It is hoped that the nations of Latin America will follow the rest of the world and adopt the Eureka-147 platform, rather than the highly flawed iBOC or HD radio system. They would have nothing to loose and everything to gain by thus doing so.
______________

Mexico will let the north border broadcasters to use HD Radio, but not mandatory, it is going to be up to each of the stations to invest on it or not.

In the long run, L band will be used, but not with Euroka, maybe with a more advance system loke T-DMB.
