Harry Smith Leaves Today on NBC

Harry Smith heads to Central College in Iowa.

PELLA, Iowa – One of the best storytellers in the business will be returning to Iowa to share his knowledge at his alma mater.

Longtime NBC News correspondent Harry Smith filed his final story for NBC Nightly News Thursday night. The graduate of Central College in Pella appeared on TODAY Friday morning as he was honored for a career full of impactful coverage and also spoke about his plans for the future.

Smith says he will be back at Central College in the fall to teach a course on curiosity. He also told the TODAY crew he may write some books.

Congrats to Harry Smith on his TV retirement. Most know him from CBS This Morning with Paula Zahn (eventually The Early Show), but yes, he was at NBC for several years after that.
Best wishes on his new adventures back in Iowa.

Here is an Aircheck of when Harry Smith was with CBS. Note this aircheck is from 1994 when CBS had to simulcast KCBS-TV's coverage of the Northridge Quake.
