global's adding --- but are they dropping too??

If I had a vote on which songs for DG to eliminate... while they ponder new additions, I'd suggest "Lady in Red" Chris Deburgh -----
"Arthur's Theme" Christopher Cross ------ "On & On" Stephen Bishop and "Kokomo" Beach Boys

I'll probably think of a couple others, but those first 3 are so tired & worn (always provoking me to hit the button when they come on) and definitely need a rest!

Your choices if any?

Many songs on DG are added and "rested" , quarterly.

DG uses music research and a program called "Selector" to compile the playlist and schedule.

It's sounding pretty much the same as it always did. I am hearing some new songs, though. Or at least ones I haven't heard, and they're good.

"Kokomo" needs to go, though, as does "Lady in Red". I can't figure out why "How Long" by Ace is there at all. The guy sounds like Barry Manilow, but that's the only justification I can think of.

"Axel F" never fit the format at all.

I was out driving yesterday and turned on a DG Adult Standards station. I definitely preferred Timeless's presentation. DG Adult Standards has this nice soft music, but in-your-face production :(

If Axel F doesn't fit the format, why play Tequila or Pretty Woman.
?
Pretty soon the playlist (now around 800 songs) will be about 10 of Chimp's fav's - and thats all.

Axel F is different because it's synthesized. VERY synthesized.

I have no objection to "Tequila". I don't like "Pretty Woman" because of the pounding drums at the start but most of the song is okay.

As for my favorites, have you seen my fantasy iPod? Or rather, iPods since they're divided up according to music style. Not all the songs in the second vocals iPod would be what I consider acceptable for standards radio, but the first one got full. The second one started as a list of songs I would consider acceptable as background music in businesses that use AC. Also, not all the country vocals would be what I consider acceptable on standards radio. The links are at the bottom of the post because of the strange behavior of this site.

I heard "Sorry Seems to Be the Hardest Word" by Elton John for the first time today on Dial Global. It does seem to fit because of accordion and vibraphone, and because the piano part has a similar style to "real" standards. I heard "Tiny Dancer" several weeks ago, though, and it just seems too noisy.

I heard two newbies back-to-back today (at least they were new to me): Bubbly by Colby Caillat (nice, but definitely a very modern song for the list) and Autumn Leaves by Eric Clapton. The latter was excellent. Found it strange to hear them in succession like that.

Christmas season approaches. Am anxious to see if it is the same mix as in recent years or if we get some reprieve from the County-heavy roster of artists.

"Bubbly"? That can't be good.

I have to say they have done a good job of keeping the real standards in there and getting played a lot. Carl Hampton's show seems to do a better job of that but then he did come from a more conservative format. Sometimes during Carl's show it sounds as good as the old Music of Your Life before the recent changes.

It was after sunset, so I can't be sure, but I think this was the word I kept hearing. And Carl Hampton described a young girl or young woman whose name sounded like it could have been Colbie Caillat. Sounds like a female version of what Michael Buble is doing in addition to standards, which gets played because it's Michael Buble. In this case, though, that doesn't make it right.
