General Variety Hits Update

According to arbitron and ratings updates, it looks like a majority of the Variety Hits stations in the country are doing very well. Some are even transitioning to the next step: jocks. Ben FM in Philly is starting to add jocks.

Any response to the overall success of VH stations bitter beer faces?

By the way, it looks like this is more than a "6 month format" or a "flash in the pan" format. There is still more time to debate the demise of these stations, but things are looking up.

Two serious questions

What about KFMB's #'s? (outside of 12+, I haven't heard)...

How's billing? (Jack Chicago is down 10% for year after being up before change)...

Serious inquiries only.

questions

San Diego's 25-54s are steady but nothing spectacular either way.

Most report very strong billing forecasts. It's important to remember that ouside of a few, high-profile flips, most of these VH stations were flipped from what could be described as mutt format- their previous encarnations were uncussessful. And, most have had noticable ratings increases, especially oldies stations who may have had decent 12+ ratings but their 25-54s were sliding.
This audience, strongest 35-54, ends up showing much better 25-54 and will for a number of years if these stations are developed properly.

I think one thing that's fueled these flips is the positive reaction from ad agencies and advertisers in general. They see it as fresh, new and different and THOSE are very intriguing attributes.
