Fox Sports Radio made the wrong move

In my opinion, replacing Van Earl Wright with David Stein does nothing to improve the quality of the morning extravaganza. As I previously mentioned on this board, the move that should have been made was to move JT The Brick to anchor the extravaganza and Scott Ferrall to host Gametime React.
Here is my reasoning. JT the Brick is a known name to the general sports talk listening audience, people know what they are going to get and like to listen to him. I think the format of the extravaganza, which is more interview based than caller based will improve JT's shows. Lately, he has been spending entire segments hanging up and chastising callers. His show at night also suffers because he has no one to challenge his sometimes outlandish ideas. I think Siciliano will make him more firm and focused and that would make for better radio. Secondly, if anyone heard Ferrall last night he is a natural at late night sports talk, he interacts well with callers and has alot of loyal fans. Also, he has name recognition as most people know who he is. I, personally, think JT would be great in mornings and Ferrall in evenings and David Stein on weekends.

> Yeah, Right. Van Hurl NEEDS to go. He's a joke.

Have you ever stopped to think that maybe JT DOESN'T want to work in mornings? I mean think about it. He's got a great thing going at night. Why change it? Maybe they asked JT to do mornings and he said no.

If I had that kind of gig at night, I wouldn't want to change it either. It's probably easier for him to get affiliates at night than in the morning when lots of stations are local anyway.

Just wanted to throw in the other side of the argument.

What about

Ferrall in the morning- where he used to be on WNEW and in Miami?

I'm saying "Ferrall on the Bench" returns as a morning show.

WHY NOT? What do they have to lose?

Ben Stein is nothing but a failed comic and an annoying personality. I hear him on the radio and I change the station. That won't change.

And would someone please tell me- does Andrew Sisliano work for box tops and bottle caps or something?

I would say nothing explains his presense on the radio- except that I honestly think nothing explains his presense on EARTH!

You have that many sarcastic personalities on the air- that's going to be a tough listen to with Stein and Sis.

Re: What about

Ferrall's shtick is much better served for a night time audience, that way he won't have to be toned down at all.

As far as JT, I think he'd love to work mornings. Firstly, I think the pay increase alone to become part of the "daytime rating" period would entice him, secondly he'd be able to spend more time with his family and wouldn't be forced to sleep late into the day. He could even take his sons to a ball game if he were on in mornings, something that he isn't able to do given the time he's on, and also have dinner with his family. But, I think the pay increase and the exposure would entice just about anyone. Just ask Jeff Rickard of Sporting News who moves his 12PM-3PM EST show to morning drive 6AM - 9AM EST, I'm sure his pockets are a little deeper as a result too and he couldn't be more happy.

yeah 3 hrs of "ass-fistulas" (his words, not mine) and reminiscing of how great he was at all these stations before they canned him would be great drive time radio. why not face the facts that ferrall is limited. very limited. more jim rome than tony bruno......

Re: What about

First off, thanks for the correction on Stein. His talent is so limited that I have not seen fit to learn his first name.

Now- onto Ferrall. The fact of the matter is Ferrall has more sports knowledge than almost anyone.

I can laugh through the outrageousness. I think it makes for good radio- and the other thing it does is allow him to make strong comments without ticking people off.

Ferrall is fine for nights and so is JT..but neither guy has was it takes to do mornings. Even Rome would fail if he was ever on a morning on PM drive slot.
They fit the meaningless time slots they are on just fine.

I disagree. First, JT is far too intense for mornings. You need someone fun and easygoing in that timeslot, someone like... oh, say, Bruno. Second, JT is right where he wants to be. He specifically requested his current timeslot because it allows him to discuss the events of the day while they're still fresh in the listeners' minds while enjoying the most nationwide clearances possible. Yes, he hangs up on a lot of callers, but that's because he (unrealistically, in my opinion) expects everyone who calls his show to be as "intense" and knowledgeable as he is.

Ferrall in the morning? Possibly, but FSR seems to have him pencilled in as a pinch-hitter, so maybe they're not ready to offer him a full-time gig. (Either that or Ferrall has finally realized that he can't hold down a full-time job and is content to play the fill-in role.) Besides, doing a morning show again would interfere with his ability to sleep in. :D

(And I can't believe I just publically defended JT the Prick.)

Good points, all of them. Bottom line, if JT the Prick wanted the morning slot, it would be his. JT and Asswood are best friends, and Asswood would do anything JT asked. That is, until Asswood is finally fired or FSR goes belly-up.
