For Those Interested In The "Jack" Format

There was a story in today's Jackson (Miss.) Clarion Ledger giving notice to Jackson's 94.7 Jack FM, touted as the third station in the USA to change to the format (it did so last fall).

Although it is credited "From Staff and Wire Reports", it looks as though much of the story was taken from a CNN.com piece added today. You can compare for yourself:

The Clarion-Ledger: http://www.clarionledger.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20050620/FEAT05/506200353/1023

CNN.com: http://www.cnn.com/2005/SHOWBIZ/05/25/radio.shuffle.ap/index.html

It is apparantly making a mark in the Jackson market, which is dominated ratings-wise by Urban stations because of the area's large African-American population:

The latest Arbitron radio ratings, about a month old, show that the station is No. 5 overall in the Jackson market, but "in the 25- to 54-year-old age group, which is very attractive to advertisers, we're No. 3," [Jack 94.7 VP/GM Chris] Butterick said.

"For men in the 25-to-54 age group, we're No. 1. And we're the top-rated nonurban station for adults in the Jackson area."
