Do u think Chicago will get another urban ac station

In theory, the market could support one but Crawford is the blocker here - IMO. With WSRB and it's piss poor signal concentrated in NW Indiana and the south side/south suburbs, anyone looking at the market likely takes a pause. Yes, V-103 posts great ratings and if it was alone, you'd probably have #2. Unfortunately, Crawford squeezed in with a rimshot and a cheapened version of the format that doesn't come close to covering the market but does cover enough of the primarily African-American areas that others are hesitant to venture into this space, considering the market saturated. 104.3 Jams may be as close as we get to another urban/AC here, unless you live in the south side, Gary or Blue Island where 106.3 is viable.

It actually started on the 102.3 frequency. They gave it the upgrade to 106.3 about 20 years ago.

92.3 and 106.3 go completely against Crawford's usual programming. So much so that they don't even list them on his website.

I wonder if 106.3's format would ever move to the stronger 92.3 signal?
Even if it did, Crawford's signals aren't full market. Not even 92.3. But they do play spoiler to anyone else who considers taking on V103. I'm convinced it's why Audacy decided format Jams 104.3 as they did - to hit V103 (iHeart) with a glancing blow and get a piece of their action without being mired in a 3 way battle (of sorts as Crawford is the third party spoiler candidate here).

Seems to be working for them as of rn as they are #8 in the market and have a 3.4 rating rn.
To be a nit-picker, they actually have about a 0.1 rating. The 3.4 is share, not rating.

I'd say that it was a wise move, kind of a "let's go for the sweet spot" strategy landing between V103 and WGCI, but closer to V103. And 104.3 Jams is a well programmed station, which makes a huge difference. That's why 102.7 has been so solid for so long, it's really well programmed. And still pulling in more listeners than 104.3, but iHeart was only asking for a decent piece of that pie and I think they've been getting it.

The market shift has been rather substantial over the years and the changing demos reflect that no doubt. It would seem the demand / audience might not warrent it. For fans of the genre it can be easliy consumed online, streaming, etc. CGI has a long history in the market and for good reason.

Isn't a 0.1 generally assigned for just showing up?
Not a 0.1 rating. In most markets, you have to multiply the rating by about 25 to 30 to get share equivalent.

In May, KODA had a .3 rating and a 7.4 share in 12+.

Stations that are part of a subscribed cluster that get one incident get a 0.1 share. They will have a 0.0 rating.
