DAILY SOUTHTOWN: Like House Music? Thank Lee Michaels

Lee Michaels has been a driving force for dance music on the radio for over 20 years. Very few people have realized how truly influential his decisions were for dance radio. If it wasn't for him, house music and mixes would not have been brought to the mainstream masses. All radio mixshows across the country (yes, even the pop and rhythmic ones on your local Top 40 stations) owe their existence to his decision in 1982 to air the innovative HotMix 5 in Chicago. It led to the elevation of mainstream dance music and, eventually, more stations taking more risks with dance music formats. My company, JamTraxx Media, and its RADIOMIXES.COM division recognizes his contributions and salutes him.

Lee prowls around these boards a lot, which is a testament to his love of radio. The industry has changed tremendously-- some say for the worse-- but I dare say that it would have been much worse without him. I can't imagine what Friday and Saturday nights on the radio would sound like without mixshows. Of course, that would be a nightmare for my company and our competitors (hehehehe).

Peace Love + Dance Beats!
