Classic County in Memphis

Classic Country is starting to make its presence on the AM band.

I mean once you saturate a band with Syndicated Talk, Sports, or brokered religion, what can you do with a station?

I am glad that Classic Country is a viable option for the AM band.

There is just so much music that the *Nashville Pop stations the FM has forgotten about, and stuff that is recent, even upbeat. They are listening to the wrong consultants in my opinion.

But I am glad that Classic Country is coming around more and more to fill in those gaps. No, most of these stations do not cover Country music's past like one would hope, but it is worth it to wade through endless Pop music from Ronnie Milsap, Crystal Gayle, and Ann Murray to hear a jewel from George Jones, Merle Haggard, or even Hank Williams. Even a band like Highway 101 sounds really good, and refreshing compared to what is out there now. I didn't realize how good Country music from the early 90's really sounded!

The classic country stations of today seem to operate a little smarter than the ones that generally failed in the 80's and 90's, but I am annoyed that the ones I hear do not have local weather. They are ran so cheaply!

I ask you...do you know of anyone who likes Classic Country who doesn't also care about the weather? That means the country listener has to change the station just to get the weather. Couldn't someone, even if it's the receptionist, record a forecast?

*As a refresher, Nashville Pop generally referrs to "New Country" "Hot Country" "Today's Country", or anything that calls itself Country but plays anything but Country. I for one am particular about what I call Country.

I think music should come back to the AM band.

I find that music that originally was on the AM band (such as what we now term oldies, classic hits, classic rock, classic country, and Rymthemic Oldies) could actually do some numbers IMO (not as well as a FM station but if you are the only game in town in your format, it's a great alternative)

With most Classic country stations going the 1960s till either 1989 (or 1999 or even in the case of WSM I've heard as late as 2001 in current rotation)...Are their any Classic country stations sticking to tradition and say nothing newer than say 1975?

I don't think music should come back to AM, FM is for music and AM is for news/talk<P ID="signature">______________

You could not be more wrong on that.

There has to be a place for:
Oldies
Nostalgia
Classic Country
Ethnic

You can only get so much talk, religion, and sports on AM before the band is saturated, and the stations unable to pay their bills.

Maybe it may be where I'm from but people here in Louisiana go Nostalgic over many things..and figure some may get that feeling with music that was originally aired on the AM band cause it "sounds" more like they remember ....

But one of the strangest formats on AM I think has been Radio Disney which plays preteen oriented pop music. Almost all (except 5) are on the AM band?!?!?

Not too good in ratings my guess but to be on over most of America on Am has to say something.

That's not counting the music stations on skywave at night either...
KWKH and WSM are two of the many out there with oldies, R&B, and classic country being the main ones
