"On the topic of records, at KAAY in Little Rock, we were
still playing everything on QRK turntables up through 1978.
Although not in a large market, it was a station of some
significance (at least in the midwest) and may have been
among the last of the big top 40's to convert to carted
music. If I had a dollar for every record I mistakenly
started at wrong speed there..."

Hey -- I listened to KAAY at night back then when
I was a kid living up in the Missouri Ozarks.

Did you know "Doc Holiday" who worked nights in 1976?
I've always wanted to talk to him.

Thanks!

The very first phone call on the request line (still
remember the number: 501-661-1212) on my first night
there was from Duluth, MN. Missouri, Iowa, Illinois
Louisiana and Minnesota were our core skywave states
in the figure-8 pattern.

When I arrived later in 1976, KAAY had just moved from
its longtime downtown studios and had undergone a lot
of staff changes. Doc Holiday was gone by then. To keep
this topical for the Dallas board, the night air talent
was Reid ``Rookie'' Reker, who later went on to manage
KLLI/105.3 a few years ago.

I too remember listening to KAAY. Great station. Wasn't Ray and Ram there at one time? I also recall they had some pretty good audio.

In an attempt to keep this topical for the Dallas board, KAAY
was rarely heard in Dallas (due to our directional pattern and
the adjacecy to KRLD).

Yes, Ray Lincoln was there during my tenure. We hired him
away from KLAZ (Z-98) and he was one of the factors that
shot KAAY back into double digit shares in the late 70's. To
further the Dallas angle of this -- I believe that Ray later
worked at KFJZ(AM).

The audio was quite good, especially after Jim Loupus (sp?)
came down for a few days from WCFL/Chicago and tuned the
airchain.

Yeah, Jim Loupas is a hell of an engineer. When i worked at WLAC he came in and tweaked us. Nice guy too.

I've done a little airtime with Ray Lincoln just
a few years ago.

I remember Ray when he was at WOAI in San Antonio back in 1973 and he was at KFJZ in Ft.Worth in 1979
