Atlanta Non-Comm Programming

(Started to put this in the "Missing Format" thread, but it is just different enough...)

Commercial stations are turning to slightly alternative formats (jack, dave, etc.) to get ratings. Alternative is what non-comms have been doing for years. They have filled the gap left by mainstream programming.

Here's an idea for stations below 92.1: OLDIES. Maybe even REAL OLDIES. Just think; you've got live jocks (college students, etc.) and the energy and funding to make the experiment work. (If non-comms can do big bands, they can do real oldies.)

Just wonder what kind of "numbers" they would get? (Ya don't know until ya try, right?)

WREK has an extensive 1970s record collection, but not much in the way of 50s-60s oldies. There's a stack of 45s in the archive, but many are not in good condition.

Interesting note: WREK first signed on with a Top40 format, in the classic style with jingles and reverb, in March 1968 and kept that format until late 1969, when it switched to album-oriented rock. I've listened to several airchecks, and I'd have to say it sounded better than today's oldies stations.
